Unveiling the Veil: The Biblical Truth About Ghosts, Demons, and the Returning Deception
In a culture fascinated by paranormal encounters, ghost-hunting investigations, and tales of the supernatural, many remain deceived about the true identity of these entities. Drawing from the clear teachings of Scripture, the insights preserved in the Book of Enoch, Jasher, and Jubilees, and the steadfast theology of the early church fathers and Puritans, we can discern the reality behind these phenomena. The Bible leaves no room for wandering human spirits; instead, it reveals a deeper spiritual conflict that points directly to the need for discernment in these last days.
No Human Ghosts—Only Familiar Spirits
The Word of God is unambiguous about death and the afterlife for believers. As 2 Corinthians 5:8 states, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” Hebrews 9:27 reinforces this: “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” There is no intermediate state where human souls linger on earth, haunting locations or seeking unfinished business. Upon death, the spirit immediately stands before the Lord.
What then explains the apparitions people report as “ghosts”? These are familiar spirits—disembodied entities that impersonate the deceased to undermine faith in Scripture. Leviticus 19:31 warns, “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.” These spirits are not lost loved ones but the lingering essences of the Nephilim, the hybrid offspring described in Genesis 6.
The Book of Enoch provides crucial detail on their origin, respected by early church fathers such as Justin Martyr and Tertullian. Enoch 15:8-9 explains that the giants, born from the union of fallen angels and human women, became “evil spirits upon the earth” after their physical death. Their spirits remain to afflict humanity, a truth echoed in the Book of Jubilees. The Puritans, with their deep commitment to biblical purity and rejection of occult practices, would have identified such manifestations as demonic deceptions designed to distract from the Gospel.
Distinguishing Demons from Fallen Angels
Scripture distinguishes between demons and fallen angels. Demons are the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim—parasitic entities without their own physical bodies, constantly seeking embodiment, as seen in accounts like Mark 5 where the Legion of demons begged Jesus for a new host. Fallen angels, however, can manifest in tangible forms. Hebrews 13:2 cautions, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” This applies to both holy and rebellious angels. Throughout history, those involved in occult rituals and blood sacrifices have reported physical encounters with such beings, mirroring the events of Genesis 6.
Genesis 6:1-4 records: “And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose... There were giants [Nephilim] in the earth in those days.” These unions produced immoral, cannibalistic giants whose legends persist globally. As ancient records and archaeological patterns suggest, where evidence of cannibalism appears, tales of giants often follow—remnants of this pre-Flood corruption.
These Nephilim spirits continue their work as demons, opposing God’s people. Yet their defeat is assured through the authority of Christ.
Victory Through the Name Above Every Name
The power to overcome these entities has always been the same. When young David confronted Goliath—a descendant of the giant clans—he declared in 1 Samuel 17:45-47: “Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied... that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.” David did not rely on physical strength but on proclaiming the name and power of the Lord.
Jesus demonstrated this authority repeatedly, casting out demons with a word. Mark 16:17 promises believers, “In my name shall they cast out devils.” There is no need for elaborate rituals or devices—only faith in Yeshua (Jesus), whose name carries unmatched power. The early church fathers and Puritan preachers emphasized this spiritual warfare, urging reliance on Scripture alone against all principalities and powers.
The Ancient Deception Returns: “Aliens” as New Nephilim
Humanity has faced these deceptions before. Ancient civilizations worshipped these hybrid beings as gods, offering sacrifices and tracing royal bloodlines to them. Pagan idolatry, as the church fathers noted, traces back to this Genesis 6 incursion. Now, as the age draws to a close, a greater deception emerges—one presenting these entities as advanced extraterrestrial visitors or enlightened beings.
These “aliens” are not visitors from distant planets but another manifestation or engineered breed of Nephilim activity. They echo the same patterns: demanding genetic material, promoting rejection of the Creator, and preparing humanity for false worship. Jesus warned in Matthew 24:37, “But as the days of Noe [Noah] were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Just as the Nephilim corrupted the earth before the Flood—and appeared again afterward, as in Numbers 13:33—they stir once more through modern technological and interdimensional means.
The solution remains rooted in truth. Stand firm on the unchanging Word. Reject the impersonations of familiar spirits. Discern the signs of the times through Scripture. The giants fell in ancient days through the power of God, and every demonic force will ultimately bow to the name of Jesus.
Awake to this reality. The deceptions seek to discredit the Gospel, but the victory of the cross stands eternal. Cling to the Lord, speak His name boldly, and walk in the light of His truth.
