Equipping Your Kids to Stand Firm in Their Faith at School

As parents, one of the greatest responsibilities we have is not only to raise our children in the fear and knowledge of the Lord but also to equip them to stand firm in their faith in a world that often challenges it—even in their schools. Today, more than ever, children are encountering ideas that conflict with biblical truth—from evolutionary teachings to occult influences hidden in popular culture. But the good news is this: your children have rights, and you can help them exercise those rights boldly and confidently.

Understanding Your Child’s Rights in School

Many parents don’t realize just how much protection the law offers for religious expression in schools. Here’s what every parent and child should know:

Starting a Bible Study or Faith Club: Your child has the right to start or participate in a Bible study club or other religious student organization. This includes holding meetings before or after school and inviting peers to join. Schools cannot discriminate against religious clubs or treat them differently from other extracurricular activities.

Expressing Faith in Class: Students can express their faith in writing assignments, class discussions, and projects—as long as it’s relevant and appropriate. They cannot be penalized simply for expressing biblical beliefs.

Prayer at School: Students may pray individually or in groups during non-instructional times. Voluntary prayer is protected, and schools cannot suppress this expression.

Equal Treatment & Non-Discrimination: Religious students must be treated equally to other students. They cannot be singled out or punished for their beliefs.

Opting Out: If an assignment, activity, or lesson conflicts with your child’s biblical convictions, they have the right to opt out. This could include certain reading materials, science lessons, or activities that promote beliefs contrary to Scripture.

Legal Support: If your child’s rights are violated, don’t wait. Organizations like the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), the First Liberty Institute, and even the ACLU (in cases of discrimination against religious expression) are excellent resources for legal guidance. Knowing your rights and having support can make all the difference.

Giving Kids the Tools to Stand Firm

It’s not just about knowing the law—it’s about giving kids confidence and wisdom to navigate these challenges. Teaching them how to discuss their faith respectfully, how to defend biblical truth, and how to lean on God in the face of peer or institutional pressure equips them for life.

That’s why I was moved to write my book, The Awakening. This story was born out of a passion to counteract the subtle indoctrinations creeping into schools, from occult-themed stories like Harry Potter to evolutionary narratives that contradict the Word of God.

In The Awakening, five ordinary teens—Jason, Alex, Tyler, Mia, and Sophie—discover that the power of God is real and far stronger than any spell or magic wand. When a mysterious Bible falls into Jason’s hands at the library, it sparks a thrilling journey transforming their sleepy town into a battlefield of light versus darkness.

Filled with daring adventures, angelic warriors, and spiritual battles against sinister forces, this story shows kids how to wield faith like a sword, confront evil, and see God move in miraculous ways. There’s even a chapter where the teens debate their science teacher on creation versus evolution, giving readers practical apologetic tools to defend their faith in the classroom.

And while this book is written for kids, adults will enjoy it too. The story is packed with spiritual insight, thrilling adventures, and biblical truth that resonates across all ages. It’s a story the whole family can read together and be encouraged by.

This book isn’t just a story—it’s a resource. It inspires kids to pursue God, teaches them to stand strong in their convictions, and even provides parents with guidance on protecting their child’s rights in school.
