Greater Love Has No Man
“Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
That single sentence captures the very heartbeat of the Gospel.
Love is not merely a feeling. It is not words. It is not sentiment.
Love is sacrifice.
And nowhere in human history has love ever been demonstrated more clearly than at the cross of Christ.
The Bible tells us:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Think about that: God didn’t just say He loved us — He proved it. He stretched out His arms on a rugged cross and took the punishment we deserved.
So when someone says, “What has God ever done for me?” — the answer is simple:
He died for you.
What Real Love Looks Like
1 Corinthians 13 — often called the “love chapter” — describes what true love actually is:
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love is not jealous.
Love is not proud.
Love is not self-seeking.
Love keeps no record of wrongs.
Love always trusts.
Love always hopes.
Love always perseveres.
This is not just poetry.
This is a portrait of Jesus.
Every one of those attributes is exactly what Christ demonstrated:
• He was patient with sinners
• He showed kindness to the broken
• He forgave those who nailed Him to the cross
• He sought our good, not His own comfort
Even while suffering, He prayed, “Father, forgive them.”
That is love.
Following Christ Doesn’t Mean an Easy Life
Some people assume that if God loves us, life should always go smoothly.
But Jesus said the opposite:
“In the world you shall have tribulation.”
Faith does not remove trials — it gives you strength to endure them.
The promise of God is not a trouble-free life.
The promise is His presence in the midst of it.
He walks with us through pain, grief, hardship, and testing.
And sometimes, when we feel most alone, He is actually carrying us.
The Footprints Truth
There’s a well-known story about a man who dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord.
He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand — his and God’s.
But during the hardest moments of his life, he saw only one set.
He asked, “Lord, why did You leave me when I needed You most?”
And the Lord replied:
“Those were the times I carried you.”
Many people feel abandoned by God.
But often, in their darkest moments, they are closer to Him than ever before.
Love Forgives and Restores
The Bible says love “keeps no record of wrongs.”
It also tells us that love covers a multitude of sins.
That means no one is beyond hope.
If someone feels broken… ashamed… anxious… afraid they’ve sinned too much — that conviction is not a sign of rejection.
It’s a sign that God is still calling them.
Jesus said:
“No man can come to Me unless the Father draws him.”
If your heart is troubled, it means He is drawing you.
God’s mercy is new every morning.
But Scripture also gives a sober warning: a person who repeatedly hardens their heart and rejects correction can eventually reach a point where there is no remedy.
That’s why the invitation is urgent:
Run to the cross while you still feel His call.
The Hope of the Prodigal Son
Jesus told the story of a son who left home, wasted everything, and fell into misery.
When he finally came to his senses and returned, he expected rejection.
Instead, his father ran to meet him, embraced him, and restored him.
That story is about you.
It’s about me.
It’s about every wandering soul.
God is not waiting to condemn — He is waiting to receive.
The Message of the Cross
So if someone ever asks, “Does God really love me?” — tell them this:
He loved you enough to suffer for you.
He loved you enough to die for you.
He loves you enough to forgive you.
He loves you enough to carry you.
He loves you enough to welcome you home.
That is the greatest love ever shown.
And that love is still reaching out today.
